8U Mites Season Information

The Red Division and White Division are on the same ice for practice and scrimmages.  This group will practice together Mondays and Wednesdays and play cross-ice scrimmages on Sundays.

The Blue Division consists of six teams: Team Blue, Team Sky Blue, Team Gold, Team Black, Team Teal, and Team Maroon. This group will practice together on Mondays and Wednesdays and play cross-ice scrimmages on Sundays.

Watch the GBAYHA Calendar on the website as some weeks have different times from the usual schedule.

The rosters are fluid and the coaches may make changes at any time to move players to the appropriate level or to balance the teams.  All players will be re-evaluated sometime after January 1st.

Skaters may attend practices on Mondays, Wednesdays, or both.

8U Mites Program Information

Players will be divided by their ability into teams of 5-7 skaters. The coaches will monitor this very closely, to make sure that players are moving up during the season if they develop to the next level.  Skaters will practice and play with and against skaters with like abilities.

Red Division – Top 1/3 of skaters

White Division - Next 1/3 of skaters

Blue Division – Remaining 1/3 of skaters

Practices are held on your choice of either Monday or Wednesday or both and cross-ice scrimmage games are held on Sunday afternoons.  Practices consist of at least 4 skill zones per practice to work on a specific skills progression.  Skating, agility, puck handling, passing, shooting and small games will be the core skills covered.
The teams may also participate in one or more cross-ice jamborees, where the kids will play teams from other associations such as Depere, Appleton, and Fox Valley.

There is no state tournament at this level as emphasis is placed on skill development.

GBAYHA will host an end of the year Mite Tournament March 3-4, 2018 called Chaos @ Cornerstone.  Parents will be asked to volunteer at this tournament if their skater is participating.

What a Mite Looks like!

Cross ice play is recommended by USA Hockey’s American Development Model(ADM).
