GBAYHA Members,
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself as I have recently joined the executive board for the Green Bay Area Youth Hockey Association as president. I am very excited about the 2008 – 2009 season and wish all players success in achieving their development goals. I am looking forward to getting know some of the members that in past, I have not had the opportunity to work with and encourage all to be active in creating a great learning environment for our children.
My love for hockey started in 1990 when I met my husband who was actively playing on our college club team. The most attractive part of the game for me was the speed and the ability of play to grab and hold my attention. Over the next several years, I had gotten use to the fast pace of adult league play and of the Wisconsin Badgers. Needless to say, I was very surprised when I attended my son’s first Mite game as a member of the DC Everest Youth hockey Mite in-house team. At this level more time was spent on the ice – literally – than skating. I was simply amazed by the amount of learning that took place that first year and how the pace of the game picked-up. My respect for hockey continually increases as I learn and develop along with my son, who will be a first year Peewee this next season. I realize that playing the game is not as easy as the pros make it look and is a very good activity for the entire family.
As we all know, there is a great deal of commitment that a family must make to participate in Youth Hockey. As with any organization, a good or bad relationship between members can create a positive or negative environment. One of my goals is to maintain a positive relationship with an open line of communication between our board and members as we are all needed to create a successful organization. Realizing that all of us are busy, my hope is that we can use the technology we have available to increase the incoming and outgoing communications and enhance the relationships we currently have today. I want all members to feel open and have an easy way to bring concerns to the board in a timely manner and that we are able at address them as quickly as possible.
In closing, enjoy your summer. I will see you next hockey season and hope to hear from all of you with input.
Sincerely, Amy Carstens - GBAYHA President
