Mite Hockey - Ages 4-8
Mite hockey is broken up into two different groups, "Competitive" and "Mighty Mites". The competitive is for the more skilled players, practices twice per week, and plays a full schedule of "full ice" games. "Mighty Mites" is a recreational, developmental program that practices once per week and plays cross ice games on the weekends; much less commitment and a lot of fun for both parents and kids. You will need to decide at registration if you want your child to play competitive or mighty mites. If you have doubts if your child is good enough to play competitive, sign them up for competitive and have them attend tryouts. If you sign up for competitive and your child is not picked for one of the competitive teams, they are still eligible to play mighty mite hockey, and you will be reimbursed the difference in the fees. Both programs are described in more detail below.
Mighty Mites
Recommended prerequisite: HIP or equivalent skill.
This program has practice once per week, and "cross ice" games on Sunday. The practices will work on basic hockey skills such as skating, stick-handling, and shooting. The players will be broken up into teams of 8 or 9 players (by jersey color) and will play cross-ice games (with and without goaltenders) on Sundays. The teams will also participate in one or more cross-ice jamborees, where the kids will play teams from other associations such as Depere, Appleton and Fox Valley. In the second part of the season (January), teams of players interested in playing full ice games will be put together and will play a few additional full ice games. The full ice games are optional for parents/players interested in seeing what full-ice hockey is all about. We will also be hosting the "MiteFest" tournament at the Cornerstone Arena where the kids will have a chance to play full-ice hockey against other associations. Please note that there is no state tournament at this level. This level is purely a developmental program.
Mite Competitive
Recommended prerequisites: HIP, Mighty Mites or equivalent skill level.
The Competitive group consists of an "A" and "B" team, will have two practices per week, and will play anywhere from 20-30 full-ice games - both home and away - plus any additional tournaments and possibly the State tournament. The A and B teams are picked during Mite tryouts based on player skill. Any player not making the A/B team should play mighty mite hockey. For the A and B teams, there will be a "full time" goalie determined at the competitive tryouts.
